I'm just out of practice for wearing heels all day. When I was in high school, I worked at a department store in the mall. Standing on my feet for 4-8 hours at a time conditioned me to the mild discomfort sometimes caused by shoes. You learn to live with it after awhile.
Now being completely out of heel-wearing shape, I've learned a valuable lesson. Don't skimp on shoes! I wore the adorable shoes pictured above for 8 hours today. My feet are killing me. I wore them for a work event a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to cut my feet off at the ankles afterwards. I bought them right before my final interview for the job I now have. I actually bought them in my hometown, at the very same department store where I used to work. They weren't very expensive, so I decided to go for it. The went very well with the suit I had just purchased and I looked at it as an investment in my professional wardrobe.
BIG MISTAKE. Not only do the darn things kill my feet, they're less than a year old and they look like they've been through a war! The color has worn away in spots, they're scuffed, and just look battered. I expect more from my shoes, because I wear them till they fall apart.
Shortly after buying the cheaper shoes pictured above, I also purchased a pair of Nine West heels. I can wear those shoes all day and not feel any pain. They are just made better.
Now, I can't drop $60+ on a pair of shoes every couple of months, but I'm telling you, those shoes were a good investment. I'm already looking to buy the same shoe in black to replace those sad little slingback Mary Janes that feel like some sort of torture device if you actually have to walk in them.
So S is for splurging on shoes. Go ahead! You deserve it!
S is also for sleepy. I don't know what it is about this week but I am sleepy all the time.
