I discovered Bookmooch a couple of weeks ago. It's a website where you can trade books you are done reading. I've been toying with the idea of joining for well over a month now... but finally decided to go for it. So far, I really like it! You post books you no longer want, you search the database for books you want, then you make a mooch request! Every time you send a book to someone you get a point. You can use those points to get other books. It's really great.
It was hard for me to join because I have this thing about owning books. I've written about this before. I love books, especially hardcover ones. Someday I want a room that is covered in bookshelves so I can put all my lovely books out. But over the years, I'm realizing I've read some books that I have no desire to hang on to... so why not send them off into the world to find new owners, and get books I really want to read?
The only downfall so far, is that a lot of recently published books aren't in the database... yet. Books published in the last few years are hard to comeby, but I'm just trying to be patient! Hey... I've sent 6 books so far, and I've got 5 coming to me. All I had to pay was about $14 in shipping to get 5 new books! These days, you can't even buy a paperback for that.
