On a Movie Mission...

I love awards shows and it doesn't get much better than the Oscars. For the past few years though, I haven't seen hardly any of the nominated movies. We rarely get to the theater to see movies. If a movie is longer than 2 hours, we rarely watch them via the "OnDemand" function through out cable system. Excuses, excuses for a movie lover, I know.

But this year, I have actually seen three movies that have been nominated in some form:
"The Help" - the book was amazing and I loved the movie too.

"Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" - Frankly speaking, I didn't understand it. But the acting was really good and it was intriguing enough to have me still trying to figure it out. I even bought the book on my Kindle. Gary Oldman was really good... and he's nominated for best actor.

"The Muppets" - Muppet of a Man is an amazingly fun song and I really hope it wins. The boys were singing it at Christmas time.

I've set a goal for myself this weekend. I'm going to try to see at least three more of the nominated films.

This afternoon I watched "Midnight in Paris" which was so great. Loved it... and anyone who loves Paris will love the cinematography.

Still on the list "Moneyball" and "The Ides of March." Mmm... Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Ryan Gosling. I can think of worse ways to spend a few hours.

I can wait to watch the Oscars tomorrow night. What were your favorite movies of last year? Any favorites going into the Oscars?

First Grade Valentine

Alex got this Valentine earlier this month from he best pal Zach. It made me think of my friends from first grade. It is just the sweetest thing!
Amazingly, I still keep in touch with two of those girls. They were and always will be my bestest friends... the bestest friends a friend could have. I've been to each of their weddings and they were in mine. I'm glad that Alex has a friend like Zach and I hope they will always be best pals!

Working From Home

I'm fortunate enough to get to work from home one day a week. There are certain times of the year where there are restrictions on this... and there are other days where there just too much going on for me to work from home. But for the most part, I have one particular day of the week that I'm scheduled to work from home. The boys still go to school and daycare on this day, though when they get older this may change.

What do I love about Work at Home Wednesday? There are a few things I can't live without...

The footwear
The beverage service (that is Bailey's coffee creamer. Non-alcoholic. Delicious!!!)

The company... Though Miss Shadow usually has to retire to her crate when I have conference calls. And she HATES the mailman, so that gets a little noisy.
For the most part is just me and my laptop... getting projects done! All from the comfort of my dining room table.

Adam-isms

Adam - "Hey Syd! Syd! Come and pay wif me!"
Me - "I'm Mommy. You call me mommy. My name is Syd, but you call me Mommy."
Adam (pointing to self) - "Name is Adam. (pointing to me) Name is Mommy, Syd. Come and pay."
-------------
Adam - "NO!"
Me - "Why did you say no?"
Adam - "Because I could."
------------
Adam - "I pooped."
Me- "No, you just tooted."
Adam - (long pause)
Me - "Are you pooping?"
Adam - "No, I just toot."

Current Obsession

My grandma used to make these towel toppers when I was little. They are kitchen towels, cut in half, then crocheted at the top. You can hang them from the fridge, from a door knob or drawer pull. They are just so handy. Alas, Grandma Marie passed away while I was in college. I inherited her crochet basket, but didn't begin to crochet until a few years ago. And the kicker is... she didn't leave a pattern for these! I managed to figure it out by looking at some patterns and then by studying one that she made. I was so excited when I finally finished one and it looked great. This is a great project that you can complete in just an evening. I've made four of these in the past few days. I have been buying holiday towels when they go on clearance and stockpiling them. I bought these Valentine towels last year. These make a great random hostess gift.

How cute are these kiddos?

Adam is now two... and talking up a storm! He talks non-stop (no idea where he gets that from) and he is SUCH a ham! Even more so than his big brother. And fearless. That one is going to give us palpitations. Alex is 6 and a half... I'm so proud of how well he is doing in school! He reads so well. He likes math and science. He is a wonderful artist and he builds the most amazing things with his Legos. I'm a lucky mama, that's for sure!

Yarn Projects - Bragging a Little

I've actually completed some pretty cool yarn projects over the last few months.
I made two of these Cloud Cascade Scarves. They look really fancy, but are super easy, even for a novice yarnie like me.
I also made some bracelets for the girls I work with. These were super fun! And the gals I work with LOVED them!! I never throw away the extra buttons that come with pants, sweaters, shirts, etc. So this will be a great way to use up those buttons. I also found some really pretty fancy buttons too.
As usual, I'm finding that I need small projects that I can finish fast. It just boosts my confidence.
I also like working with bright colored yarns in the dreary days of winter.
I'm hoping to finish some other projects soon and will post pictures when I do!

What kind of yarn or other craft projects are you working on?
