Crazy Week Ahead

I've got a crazy week ahead. We just wrapped up a great visit from my parents. The time always goes too fast when they are here, but I'm so glad they are close enough that they can come up for weekends. Granted, I wish they lived here and I sure they wish we lived there but we make do.

So here's the week ahead.

Monday - Swim lessons for Alex - which means gym time for me. FINALLY. I hope to run two miles tomorrow.

Tuesday - Solo mama night while Craig works late.

Wednesday - Hopefully a haircut for Alex.

Thursday - I have to be downtown for a breakfast event for work at 7AM. Work all day. Book club at 7. (We're discussing Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. Will try to post a review later.) Then I have to make a salad for a baby shower at work Friday.)

Friday - I again go into work early. But should be able to get out early. Hopefully.
I'm exhausted just typing this, but I'm sure it will all work out.

Need Fashion Help

I'm going to my friend's bridal shower in Washington D.C. in 4 weeks.

I need a sassy dress.

The bridal shower is going to be held here:

It's described as very "Sex and the City" -ish.

I'm trying to decide between two very different dresses.

Please Cheer for my Hometown!

My hometown, Galesburg, IL, has suffered tremendous economic losses over the past 20 years. Companies have shuttered, moving jobs to Mexico. There's some serious "brain drain" because there are not enough jobs for all the kids who go off to college.

Reader's Digest is holding a contest and will feature various towns in their magazine and these towns could get a share of $5 million.

My hometown is currently ranked #40!! But there's still a week left in the contest. We want to get up into the top 10... but we need all the help we can get. You can cheer 10 times a day per email address. I posted the link below. You can cheer through February 7. Please take a minute and cheer for my hometown, Galesburg, IL, 61401. THANKS!

My Milwaukee

We recently took the boys to the Milwaukee Art Museum downtown... which is right on Lake Michigan. It's gorgeous... a real jewel for the city skyline. It is impossible to take a bad picture of this beautiful building. It was the perfect outing for a cold January day.

Fall Thoughts

Still not sure what will become of the blog, but still thinking random thoughts so will post as necessary.

* I've picked my yarn back up after about a 6 month hiatus. Life just got too busy and I had too many good books lined up to read. I made a teddy bear for my new niece and am now working on some Christmas presents for the ladies in my family.

* Alex is loving school. Switching schools was the best decision we've made. I'm so proud of him. He's starting to read.

* Now if I can just get him to pass to the next level of swimming. He can't advance until he can swim independently. I'm bribing him with goggles. I really hope it works.

I'm such a dork...

This is a Christmas ornament. It's a pierogi. I love it. I'm Polish, you see. Well, half Polish. My great grandparents came to the US from Poland. I grew up eating polish sausage, pierogi, cabbage, kluski, paczki, and all kinds of other fabulous Polish food on holidays.

My sweet, crazy Polish grandma passed away nearly two years ago. So I ordered this ornament with her in mind. She would think it's silly... but she would love it. I can't WAIT to hang this on my Christmas tree!
