The Joy of Boys

Thursday afternoon I got a call at my office. "Sydney, it's Miss Jessica. Alex fell off the playground equipment and cut his head pretty bad. We've stopped the bleeding, but he'll probably need stitches."

So I flew out the door and made it from Downtown Milwaukee to the Northwest Side in about 17 minutes flat. I got there, and my little guy wasn't even crying anymore. He was just very clingy, which was fine by me! So I got him strapped into the car seat and headed to the pediatrician's office. They put some numbing gel on it, waited 30 minutes, cleaned it out, and stitched him up. There are four stitches that will come out next Tuesday. I held his hands while he was getting the stitches. He was such a trooper! He didn't even flinch with the first two... but it was taking a long time, the office was warm, and they put a surgical drape over his face so he could see me so the last two he got a little weepy.
We took him home and made his favorite dinner... chicken nuggets. And he got frozen custard for a treat. It was quite an exciting evening... one I hope we don't have to repeat anytime soon!

Oh, my goodness. I'm so glad he's all right, if a little banged up. I keep thinking my boy is going to need stitches--I'm sure it will happen at some point.

Oh...poor baby:-( I know how you feel. My youngest did the same thing when she was 2! Not fun!

Hey Sydney! Glad Alex is ok!! What's so strange is that a year ago, Keegan cut his forehead open in almost the same spot!! He tripped, fell headfirst to the concrete, and jammed his sunglasses into his forhead. He had two deep cuts from the nose pieces. They were not deep enough for stitches, but the doctor glued them shut.

Don't worry, there is no scar that you can tell. Once you get the stitches out, keep it moisturized, and "massage" it. It well heal fine. Putting sunscreen on it helps, too.

Ok, sorry! Just thought I would share so you wouldn't be stressed anymore!! It's scary!!

Bless his -- and your! -- heart! Nothing like a panicked drive not knowing exactly what awaits. He's all boy now, huh? He's got the stitches to prove it! ;)

Hope all heals well, and you can exhale. :)

How scary! Glad he is ok. Is he going to have scar? Girls dig boys with scars....

I'm glad you both made it through that experience! I think those injuries are often more traumatizing for us moms than for the little ones. And I have to add, I just don't get the necessity of a surgical drape. It seems like that would scare the child and make the whole process more difficult.
